This is Japanese lifestyle! Experience their Omotenashi (warm hospitality)!

What is authentic Japanese lifestyle like?Eating sushi? Drinking sake? Or walking inside temples?

The beginning of my visit to Japan

kitchhike

My trip to Japan started with amazing visits to places like Hiroshima, Kyoto, and Mt. Koya in Osaka. I was impressed by the beauty of temples, breathtaking scenery, and kindness of every person we met there. The food was awesome just as I had imagined, and we enjoyed various Japanese cuisines such as sushi, yakitori, tempura, ramen, and okonomiyaki.

Above all, I had been really keen to visit a local home and eat their homemade meals, so as to experience the authentic Japanese lifestyle. Thanks to KitchHike, my dream came true. As you will see in this article, the experience of visiting a local home and having dinner was beyond my expectation.

Meet my Cooks!

After choosing a menu on the KitchHike's website, I communicated with Mr Daisuke, my cook (host) for this visit, through KitchHike's chat system.
We agreed to meet at Kunitachi station at 19:00 PM, which is about 30 minutes away from Tokyo station using the Chuo line. I met with Mr Daisuke and Ms Shino, and was invited to their home.
They welcomed me with Japanese hospitality.

Indulge in Japanese culture!

kitchhike

First, we took our shoes off and sat around a table. This is traditional Japanese style. We had such a happy time with a series of warm, Japanese homemade dishes. I ate a lot.

kitchhike

First dish is homemade chicken ham. It goes very well with sparkling wine.

Next is tamagoyaki (Japanese omelets) and chicken tempura. These were a great match with sake from Kyoto.

kitchhike

After that, we had tempura of vegetables, mushroom, and shrimp. Everything was amazingly delicious. These dishes made by my Cooks were all great and truly satisfying.

The best one was yudofu (boiled tofu) accompanied by sauce made from soy sauce, lemon and spices. Apart from that, we also had elegant and beautiful looking temari (ball) sushi with shochu (Japanese distilled wine) from Kagoshima.

My favorite one!

The best thing

kitchhike

Of course, I can never forget the wonderful homemade meal which I was able to experience, thanks to KitchHike.

However, the best thing was the special time I had chatting and sharing with local people.

The friends I came with were big fans of Haruki Murakami and Japanese comics. They were very excited when they discussed these things with Daisuke and Shino.

This experience made my trip to Japan the most wonderful ever.

Unforgettable memories...

Good times pass so fast. Unfortunately, we had to head to Tokyo station. My heart was filled with unforgettable and fun memories which we had experienced.

The time shared with Daisuke, Shino and my friends is the best experience I had during my visit to Japan!

【Mr. Daisuke】
I realized that eating can connect us with many people around the world, thanks to KitchHike's service. KitchHike's mypage facilitated our communication in everything, including when and where to meet the HIKERs on the day. Although I was a bit nervous before meeting them, I got more relaxed when we started chatting over a meal. We talked about many things, from serious issues about our countries like economy to popular music and entertainment. Time passed so quickly that, when we realized, it was already close to 11PM. We saw our guests off at our nearest station. I would like to continue using KitchHike to meet many more people around the globe.

【Shino】
This was our first time using KitchHike. We did not get nervous, and managed to welcome and host our guests just like the way we usually gather with friends. I don't speak English at all, but felt that there is no boundary when we come together with good food. It was such a great experience. I will keep finding points for improvement, so that we will get better at hosting.

We're looking forward to meeting many Hikers!!
