Tenugui Craft Experience 《Making Your Own Chusen Tenugui-Japanese cotton hand towel》
Have you ever wondered about the colorful, patterned cloths often found in souvenir shops? Those cloths are called “Tenugui”!
Tenugui are a patterned, thin cotton cloth traditionally used as hand towels.
In this workshop, you can make your very own unique Tenugui hand towel featuring a bright and vivid pattern with traditional Chusen dyeing techniques with an English speaking assistant!.

Every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday operated.

Meet at Tenugui Workshop and proceed registration -10 minutes from Keisei Tateishi Station-
10:00 / 14:00
Brief Instructions and Explanation -Start off learning about tenugui and the chusen dyeing process-
10:30 / 14:30
Pattern Setting -set the pattern sheets onto a a wooden screen, and then layer the designs-
10:50 / 14:50
Chusen Dyeing -gently pour the dye over your Tenugui after sketching out the pattern with the paste-
11:20 / 15:20
Cloth Rinsing -Rinse it in water to remove the starch and excess dye, then hang it up to air dry-
11:30 / 15:30
Cloth Rolling -Use a special machine to roll out your tenugui and get rid of any wrinkles-
12:00 / 16:00
Completion -just trim off the edges and your handmade tenugui is complete!-
Tour ends at the Tenugui Workshop.
