“Furoshiki” is a type of square-shaped cloth that is used to wrap and transport goods. ”Furo” means “bath” and the word of “Furoshiki” originates from the Edo-period practice when people used to use it to bundle clothes while at the public bath.

Unlike bags or sacks, “Furoshiki” is one sheet of cloth when it is spread so it can be useful to wrap items in different shapes. However, the certain level of technique is required in order to wrap beautifully.

Generally “Furoshiki” is used for transporting goods. Especially when delivering a gift, it is considered as a manner to wrap it in Furoshiki.

Nowadays it is re-valued as a stylish wrapping item which is recyclable and ecological.
Although Furoshiki is known to be decorated with traditional designs, the one with modern design is also being sold in recent years.
